Area

Eastern Pacific (from Costa Rica and Mexico to the Galapagos Islands). Occur at depths ranging from 0 (tidal zone of rocky coasts and corals) to 5.5 m [2] [3] .

Description

Small crustaceans, body length up to 18 mm. The main color is whitish with brownish transverse marks on the body. Free-living view. The taxon A. rostratus belongs to the species group Diadema species group within the genus Alpheus and is morphologically similar to the species Alpheus paracrinitus , from which it differs by a longer rostrum [2] [3] [1] .

The species was first described in 1988 by American zoologists Von Kim and Laurens Abel (Kim W., Abele LG, Department of Biological Science, University of Florida , Tallahassee , Florida , USA ) [1] , in 2001 molecular genetic studies were carried out [4 ] .
