History
Kerkyra Airport was built in 1937 . During World War II, the airport was used as a base for the air forces of German and Italian troops. In 1949, TAE Greek National Airlines made its first commercial flight to Athens from Kerkyra. Until 1957, the length of the runway was 800 meters. In 1959, the strip opened after expansion, and its length was already 2373 meters.
In 1962, the first small passenger terminal was built, which now, in addition to serving passengers, is the base of the Kerkyra flying club . Since 1965, the airport becomes international and begins to serve flights of Olympic Airlines . In 1972, the construction of the second terminal was completed [4] .
Airfield Complex
The entire passenger traffic of the airport is served by two terminals, boarding an airplane from which is carried out only by apron buses . the runway has no taxiways, therefore, at the southern end of the runway there is an aircraft turnaround area for their further towing along the runway to the apron .
