Shub-Niggurath (french group)

Shub-Niggurath is a French musical group (not to be confused with the Mexican death-metal group of the same name), attributed to such areas as avant-rock, tsoil , RIO . Founded by Allen Ballo. Named after Shub-Niggurath , the dark goddess of fertility from Lovecraft myths. In its gloom, the group surpassed Univers Zero [1] .

History

After releasing the demo tape, and a year later, the debut album Les Morts Vont Vite (1986), the group caused a laudatory response in the press and public recognition [2] . "Les Morts Vont Vite" - these are strange otherworldly melodies, rattle, "witch" vocals of Ann Stewart [3] combined with trombone (which was unusual at that time) - and at the same time, well-calibrated and rehearsed work [4] . Thanks to this album, the group became a landmark for fans of avant-rock [5] . Meanwhile, in the late 80s, Frank Kulo and Frank Fromy leave the group, which introduces certain difficulties and changes in the group [2] .

The album C'etaient de tres grands vents (1991) marked the transition to a more electro-acoustic style [2] . It may not be a Tsoil anymore, but it is definitely the same nihilistic and gloomy Shub-Niggurath.

Since 1991 [6], the group consisted of 4 people - Ballo, Perrault, Verdier and Herve, until in 1995 Ballo died of cancer [2] . The album "Testament" was recorded in 1992-94, but was released only in 2003 [7] . "Testament" is ten nameless tracks full of festering disharmony and refined cthulhuism [8] . This is the craziest and most unique manifestation of RIO (although not a pure RIO ) - and a true masterpiece [7] . But there is nothing from tsoil [9] . And, finally, in 2009 the 1982 debut demo tape was released on CD [10] .
