José Gregorio Valera ( Spanish: José Gregorio Valera ) - Venezuelan politician and military man, President of Venezuela during two months of 1878-1879. The half brother of his predecessor, Francisco Linares Alcantra .

He was known as a military man who took part in hostilities against President José Ruperto Monagas in 1867–1868 [1] . Before his election, he held the posts of Minister of War (1877–1878) and President of the country's Congress (1878–1879).
December 15, 1878 elected president of the Constituent Assembly of the country, gathered after the sudden death of President Francisco Linares Alcantara .
However, one of the longtime opponents of President Alcantara, elected Vice-President General José Gregorio Cedeño [2] did not recognize this act and, declaring Carabobo ’s state autonomous, started a march on Caracas , which he took on February 13, 1879 [2] , declaring the new head of the country former President General Antonio Guzmán Blanco .
I remember only this conflict and the decree on the destruction of monuments and statues of A. G. Blanco . Later he was accused of murdering General Rafael Maria Gualdron, but in 1889 he was acquitted [3] .
