Geography
It is located approximately 60 km west of the state administrative center, the city of Raipur , east of the Seonath River (a tributary of the Mahanadi ), at an altitude of 289 m above sea level [1] .
The climate of the city is characterized as arid tropical. Maximum temperatures are observed in May and June and reach 45 ° C. The rainy season lasts from July to September. The annual rainfall is about 1000 mm.
Population
According to the 2001 census, the population of the city is 231,182 people. Men make up 51% of the population, women - 49%. The average literacy rate is 72%, which is higher than the national average of 59.5%. 13% of the population are children under 6 years old.
Transport
The national highway number 6 ( Mumbai - Nagpur - Calcutta ) passes through the city. There is a railway connection. The nearest airport is Raipur.
