Franz Frantsevich Lesgaft ( August 10, 1833 - 1884 , St. Petersburg ) is a Russian chemist, technologist, writer and translator. Consisted as an indispensable member of the Imperial Russian Technical Society in the 1st chemical department and a member of the Russian Chemical Society ; brother of Peter Lesgaft [1] .

Biography
Study
Franz Frantsevich Lesgaft was born into the family of a Russified German, a jeweler, a member of the Gold Arts Workshop Johann Peter Otto Lesgaft and his wife Henrietta Louise . He graduated from the Petersburg Petrovsky College. As a fellow from the merchant class, he entered the St. Petersburg Commercial School , which he graduated in 1852 with a gold medal. In 1853 he entered the St. Petersburg University in the natural department of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics. At the end he was awarded the degree of candidate of natural sciences.
Teaching
Lesgaft taught his whole life. After studying for about three years he worked in the Novgorod name gr. Arakcheeva Cadet Corps, taught chemistry. From 1860, he moved back to St. Petersburg, where he began to teach technical chemistry and commodity science at the Petersburg Commercial School, and in 1867 began to teach chemistry at the Nikolaevsky Engineering School . In 1868, Lesgaft was appointed a member of the technical committee of the main quartermaster department re-established in the military ministry, he held this position until 1883, a year before his death. In recent years, he taught chemistry at Dr. Wiedemann’s gymnasium.
Writing Activities
The first published work was the book "Commodity research of raw products and manufactory products", published in St. Petersburg in 1866, reprinted in 1875. In the same 1866, the “Translation of the course of chemistry by prof. A. Nake, with translator's additions, reissued in 1873. In 1873, your work “On Nutrients in General and the Importance of Meat Extract, as an integral part of human food (translation of the work of Prof. Max von Pettenkofer)” is published. In the same year, after being sent by the military ministry to the Vienna World and London International Exhibitions, he compiled a detailed report on several departments. In 1874 - "Views of modern chemistry" (Weierich's translation). In 1877, in St. Petersburg, the “Course of Chemical Technology, compiled for a program approved by the Minister of Education for Real Schools (a popular presentation of the phenomena of processing raw materials),” is published. In 1880 - "On Baking" (translated Birnbaum). Later, under his editorship, a translation of the multi-volume “Chemical technology” according to Bolley was released.
Lesgaft also published articles on chemistry. In particular, in the 6th edition of 1875 “Notes of the Imperial Russian Technical Society” (in the annex) an article “On the news on leather production” was published, and 5th edition in 1880 - “On canned food for the troops and the Mainz Cannery”. It was printed in the Military Collection: “Production of canned meat at the plant in Mainz during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870–71” (1872, No. 5) and “Food of the Army in Wartime” (historical essay, 1873 , No. 8).
