The original judges of the first season were Louis Walsh , Sharon Osborne and Simon Cowell . Singer Danny Minogue joined them in the 4th season, and Cheryl Cole replaced Osborne in the 5th season. In the 8th season, all the judges were completely replaced, and Gary Barlow , Kelly Rowland and singer Tulisa Konstanstavilos became them. In the 9th season, Nicole Scherzinger took over the judicial chair Kelly Rowland, and in the 10th season - Sharon Osborne , Simon Cowell and Cheryl Cole returned to the show. In the 11th season, released at the end of 2014, Osborne was replaced by Melanie Brown , who had previously participated in the 9th season as a temporary replacement for judges, Scherzinger and Barlow. In the 12th season of the show, there were changes in the composition of the judges, so Rita Ora and Nick Grimshaw replaced Melanie Brown and Louis Walsh in the judicial chairs. In the 13th season, the original judges of Louis Walsh , Sharon Osborne , Simon Cowell , and Nicole Scherzinger joined them. After the 14th, Walsh and Scherzinger left the show, and Osborne was supposed to return only for live performances, but it was later announced that she would not participate in the show. In the 15th season, Louis Tomlinson , a member of the One Direction band formed at this show, Ida Field and Robbie Williams, will join Cowell.

After the release the show was a huge success and became popular. Versions of The X Factor began to appear in various countries as franchises . Season 6 attracted 200,000 spectators and peaked among British television viewers, gathering 19.7 million people from screens (63.2% of the audience) [2] . In the season finale 10 million votes were cast [3] . On November 15, 2013, the ITV channel announced that Cowell had signed a contract to extend The X Factor for three years until 2016. [4] On September 16, 2016, it was announced that the ITV channel had signed another contract to extend the show for three years until 2019. In November 2018, the show was extended until 2022.

History

The X Factor was created by judge Simon Cowell as a replacement for Pop Idol [5] , where he was a judge, but, wishing to start his own show, left it. The first season of Pop Idol was quite successful, in other respects, like the second, but by the final the ratings began to decline sharply [6] . In 2004, the British channel ITV announced a new show created by Cowell without the participation of the author of Pop Idol , Simon Fuller , - The X Factor . The apparent similarity between the two shows later became the subject of a legal dispute [1] .
