Biography
Born on January 7, 1912 in the village of Undol, Vladimir province, in the family of an accountant Andrei Konovalov and a philistine Evgenia Mikhailovna Papeshina.
In his youth, contrary to the prohibition of his parents, he went to Moscow to study as an artist. In 1936 he entered the Moscow State Art Institute. V.I. Surikova . He studied under Igor Grabar , Mikhail Shemyakin . For a beautiful drawing and delicate color palette, Igor Grabar called Konovalov “Russian Tiepolo ”.
During training at the institute, he met the artist Tatyana Vladimirovna Kovrigina , who became his wife and assistant in the creation of many frescoes. In 1943, in Perm, they had a son, Viktor Viktorovich Konovalov, who did not become an artist, but decided to continue the maternal dynasty and became an engineer, and then, in 1951, daughter Natalya Viktorovna Konovalova (Moscow artist and painter).
He took part in the decoration of the Kiev metro station of the Moscow metro, was a member of the team of authors of frescoes and mosaics dedicated to the workers of Soviet Ukraine (along with Grigory Opryshko , Vartan Arakelov , Igor Radoman and some others) [1] .

He died in Moscow at the age of 83 (1995).
Military Service
In 1942, drafted into the ranks of the Red Army . As part of the 928th Infantry Regiment of the 252nd Infantry Division, he participated in the Battle of Stalingrad . He became one of the three surviving fighters of the regiment. He was awarded the medal For the defense of Stalingrad .
In 1943, at the request of I.E. Grabar, he was recalled from the front and evacuated to Perm.
In 1944-1945, as part of the Art Studio of the Main Political Administration of the Border Troops, he made business trips to Warsaw, Prague, and Budapest.
In 1947 he graduated from the Art Institute; a year later became a member of the Moscow Union of Artists .
