Biography
Mikhail Mochalov was born on January 13, 1921 in the city of Vyazniki (now Vladimir Region ). After finishing ten grades of school and teacher courses, he worked in his specialty. In 1940, Mochalov was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . In 1942, he graduated from the Engels Military Aviation Pilot School. Since June 1943 - on the fronts of World War II [1] .
By July 1944, the Guard Lieutenant Mikhail Mochalov was deputy squadron commander of the 144th Guards Assault Air Regiment ( 9th Guards Assault Air Division , 1st Guards Assault Air Corps , 5th Air Army , 2nd Ukrainian Front ). By that time, he had made 150 sorties for aerial reconnaissance and attack of accumulations of military equipment and manpower of the enemy, his important objects, inflicting heavy losses on him, personally shot down 2 enemy aircraft [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of October 26, 1944, for “exemplary performance of the command missions at the front of the battle against the German invaders and the courage and heroism shown” of the guard, Lieutenant Mikhail Mochalov was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Medal Star ” under number 4620 [1] .
In 1945, Mochalov graduated from the Higher Officer Navigation School. In 1946, with the rank of senior lieutenant guard, he was sacked. He lived and worked in Kaliningrad (now Korolev, Moscow Region ). He died on March 11, 1972, was buried in the Bolshevsky cemetery of Korolyov [1] .
Rewards
He was also awarded two orders of the Red Banner , orders of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree, Red Star and Glory of the 3rd degree, a number of medals [1] .
Memory
In honor of Mochalov named street in Vyazniki [1] .
