NCAA Champion in the 1943/1944 season , BAA Champion in the 1948/1949 season and NBA Champion in the 1949/1950 season .

The early years

Arnie Ferrin was born in the city of Salt Lake City ( Utah ), studied at the Ogden School from the city of the same name , in which he played for the local basketball team.

Student career

In 1948 he graduated from the University of Utah , where for five years he played for the Utah Utes team, in which he spent a successful career. Under Ferrin, Utes twice won the regular championship of the Mountain States Athletic conference (1944–1945), and also doubled the playoffs of the US student championship (1944–1945) [1] [2] [3] [4] [ 5] .

In 1944, Utah Utes became champions of the National University Sports Association (NCAA) , and Arnie Ferrin was recognized as the most outstanding player in this basketball tournament . On March 24, they reached the final of four NCAA tournaments ( Final Four ), where they first beat Price Brookfield 's Iowa State Cyclones team 40–31 in the semifinal match on March 25, in which Ferrin became the fourth most successful player in his team Having scored 6 points [1] [6] , and then in the final game, on March 28, in a bitter struggle (in overtime) they beat Oda Brindley ’s team “ Dartmouth Big Green ” with a score of 42–40, in which Arnie became the best player in the match, gaining 22 points [1] [7] . NBA Career

He played as a light forward and attacking defender . In 1948 he was selected by the BAA draft under the 33rd number by the Minneapolis Lakers team, in which he spent his entire short professional career. In total, in the BAA / NBA spent 3 seasons. For two consecutive years, Ferrin as part of the Lakers became the BAA / NBA champion ( 1949 - 1950 ). In total, during his career in the BAA and the NBA he played 178 games in which he scored 1037 points (an average of 5.8 per game), made 271 rebounds and 278 assists [10] .

Further activities

After completing the player’s sports career, Ferrin worked for a long time in the structure of his native Utah Utes team, first as general manager and then as sports administrator. From 1976 to 1985 he held the position of team sports director, and then retired. On March 10, 2012, Arnie Ferrin was inducted into the Pacific-12 Conference Hall of Fame .
