Ferdinand Kahn ( German: Ferdinand Kahn , full name Ferdinand Gelanus Kahn ; August 17, 1788 - October 18, 1864 ) - the first bishop of the Tiraspol diocese of the Roman Catholic Church , a member of the Dominican order.

Biography
Born in 1788 in Galicia , by nationality - Austrian [1] . Around 1810 he arrived in the Russian Empire , May 24, 1810 in the Vitebsk province joined the Order of Preachers (Dominicans). March 13, 1815 was ordained a priest. For some time he lived in Grodno , where he worked in a gymnasium, in 1822-1835 he was engaged in pastoral activities among German emigrants in the territory of modern Belarus, in Revel (modern Tallinn ) and Riga . Since 1833 - rector of the Riga Dominican monastery [2] .
After the concordat of 1847 between the Holy See and Russia, the Catholic parishes of foreign immigrants in southern Russia were united in 1848 into the Kherson diocese, [May 20]] in 1850, Ferdinand Kahn was appointed her bishop . On October 29, 1850, his episcopal ordination took place in the church of St. Catherine in St. Petersburg . The ordained Kan to the bishops was Metropolitan Kazimir Dmokhovsky [3] . The residence of Bishop Caen was located in St. Petersburg.
In 1852, the conditional center of the diocese was moved to Tiraspol , and the diocese was renamed Tiraspol, although the bishop continued to remain in St. Petersburg. In Tiraspol, the construction of a cathedral and the residence of the bishop was planned, but the Crimean War prevented these plans [4] .
In 1856, Saratov was elected the new center of the diocese as the center of the Volga Germans , most of whom were Catholics. Bishop Kahn moved to Saratov in October 1856 [1] , in November a religious consistory was inaugurated, a year later a Catholic seminary [2] .
Ferdinand Kahn died on October 18, 1864 in Saratov. He was buried there at the Catholic cemetery [1] .
