Biography
Konstantin Galler was born in 1845. He studied at the First Cadet Corps . After graduating in 1863, he was released as a cornet to Her Majesty’s Cuirassier Life Guards Regiment , then transferred to the Lubensky 8th Hussars Regiment . A few years later he retired, deciding to devote himself to music. In 1867 he entered the St. Petersburg Conservatory . He studied under the guidance of professors Voyachek, Johansen , Zaremba and Rimsky-Korsakov (composition theory), Czerny (piano class), A. Rubinstein (ensemble class) and Chiardi (flute class). However, Galler did not graduate from the conservatory.
Of the critical articles by Haller, "Essays on the Literature of Russian Musical Criticism", placed in the "Son of the Fatherland" from 1876 to 1877, deserve special attention. As a music critic, he also published in the World Illustration and other publications.
Haller wrote many romances, small pieces for piano, bow quartets, choirs, orchestral compositions, and the opera Marina Grove, which was not orchestrated by him. Excerpts from his symphonic painting “Feast of Belshazzar”, the anthem “Homeland” and others. Were performed with success in concerts. He also compiled the Collection of Folk Songs of the Luga County, which appeared in print after his death, and the collection of children's songs, Children's Paradise. As an educator, Haller is known for his essay Textbook of Choral Singing and Theory of Music and articles in Russian Primary Teacher.
Haller was seriously fond of falconry . Haller's articles on hunting were published in the journal Nature and Hunt, in the English hunting magazine The F'ield, and in the hunting calendar of V. G. Lavrentiev .
Konstantin Petrovich Galler died on April 15, 1888. He was buried in St. Petersburg at the Smolensk Orthodox Cemetery [1] .
