Biography

F.A. Arrest was born on November 26, 1913 in Kazan in the family of a school teacher.

In 1931, after graduating from high school, she entered the Physics and Mathematics Department of Kazan State University , which she graduated in 1936 with a degree in gravimetry (diploma No. 1526 of 11/15/1948, copy).

In 1936, she was assigned to work in the Turkmen variometric party of the All-Union Office of Geophysical Intelligence (VKGR) of the People’s Commissariat of Oil and was sent to work in Turkmenistan (in 1938, the VKGR was transformed into the State Union Geophysical Trust of the GSGT).

From November 1936 to December 1951 - foreman, head of the variometric batch, foreman (head) of the cameral bureau, senior engineer, head of the production department in geophysical divisions of VKGR - GSGT:

1936-1941 - in the Turkmen variometric party VKGR ( Moscow - Hasan-Kuli, Turkmen SSR );

1941-1942 in the West Siberian Geophysical Expedition GSGT ( Moscow - Petropavlovsk , Kazakh SSR );

1943-1951 - in the Central Asian branch of the GSGT ( Ashgabat , Turkmen SSR).

Since 1943, she constantly lived and worked in Ashgabat.

In October 1948, a devastating Ashgabat earthquake occurred , almost one in three residents of the city died. The husband of F.A. Arrest, geophysicist engineer Ivonin Anatoly Mikhailovich, who at that time was the head of the Central Asian branch of the GSGT, died during this catastrophe.

1951-1952 - F.A. Arrest, Technical Director, Chief Engineer of the integrated geophysical expedition on the route of the Main Turkmen Canal ( Kazandzhik , Turkmen SSR),

1952-1953 - chief engineer of the Sredazneftegeofizika trust (Ashgabat, Turkmen SSR).

From April 1953 until the end of his career (September 1986) he was the head of the integrated gravimagnetic batch, at the same time, in 1970-1986, the head of the specialized unit No. 13 of the USSR Ministry of Geology , the organizer and permanent curator of the specialized gravimetric service of the Turkmen SSR.

Scientific and production activities

Honorary member of the section of the Committee on the Award of State Prizes of the Turkmen SSR in the field of science and technology (1980-1985).

Member of the Scientific Editorial Board on Geological Cartography of the Ministry of Geology of the USSR. Geophysical Section (1962-1978)

Permanent participant in scientific and methodological commissions of the Department of Geology of the Turkmen SSR.

For participation in the discovery of the Kum-Dag oil fields (1948), Kotur-Tepe (1956) and Barsa-Gelmes (1962), the Kizyl-Kum gas condensate field (1958), which constituted the main fund of the republic’s oil industry, was awarded the Order of Lenin in 1963 .

All the work of F.A. Arrest is associated with the formation and development of geophysical and especially gravimetric methods in studying the deep geological structure of the earth's crust when searching for oil and gas deposits in the oil and gas provinces of Turkmenistan and Central Asia as a whole.

30–40 of the twentieth century — together with her husband, A. M. Ivonin, and F. A. Arrest, were among the first geophysicists and geologists who initiated the creation and development of Soviet exploratory geophysics. These were: V. V. Fedynsky , Yu. N. Godin, A. M. Lozinskaya, A. I. Gershanok, A. A. Devyatkin, P. M. Tikhanov, I. K. Tuezov, A. A. Schreider and many other geophysicists and geologists. For two decades, the entire territory of South-West Turkmenistan was covered by a general gravimetric survey performed by A. M. Ivonin, F. A. Arrest, A. A. Shreider. Geophysical research laid the foundation not only for understanding the deep structure of this complex region, but also for understanding the crucial role of geophysics in solving geological problems. Based on the materials of gravimetric survey, F.A. Arrest was one of the first schemes of tectonic zoning of the West Turkmen Depression, identified promising oil and gas bearing regions and structural forms, which were subsequently confirmed by the discovery of the Kotur-Tepe, Kum-Dag, Okarem and other fields. The unique nature was determined for the first time. the ridge of the Greater Balkhan as a block border structure, the suture character of the tectonic contact of the platform of the Krasnovodsk Peninsula and the South Caspian Depression has been established.

The object of subsequent work was the entire complex territory of Turkmenistan.

1950-1970s - F.A. Arrest, organizer and leader of the systematic coverage of the territory of Turkmenistan with gravimetric surveys at a scale of 1: 200 000 (completed by the end of the 60s). The organizer and direct executor of the work on the generalization and interpretation of the results of gravimetric measurements in conjunction with the KMPV seismic survey, the State Testing Service, with aeromagnetic survey and deep exploration drilling data. He is the author of the methodology for interpreting observed and derived gravity anomalies as criteria for identifying different-scale fault dislocations. Author-compiler and editor of numerous maps of the geological and geophysical content of the territory of the Turkmen SSR, the most significant of which are:

Gravimetric map of the Turkmen SSR scale 1: 1 000 000.

State Gravimetric map of the USSR on a scale of 1: 200 000 (territory of the Turkmen SSR).

Tectonic map of the western regions of Central Asia and the Caspian Sea on a scale of 1: 1 000 000.

Map of oil and gas regions and oil and gas prospects of the West of Central Asia at a scale of 1: 1 000 000, which determined the direction of the subsequent stages of geophysical exploration and drilling.

F.A. Arrest is a propagandist of scientific and practical achievements of gravimetric exploration, the most important role of geophysical exploration in regional and oil and gas geology. Together with V.V. Fedynsky and Yu. N. Godin, she created the Central Asian school of geophysicists, one of the most powerful in the USSR oil industry system.

The name F. A. Arrest is widely known outside of Turkmenistan. Personal charm, a deep mind, modesty, industriousness earned sincere respect, authority and love of a huge number of people who knew her.
