Biography

Born in Nizhny Tagil in the family of Dmitry Vasilievich Belov and his wife Agnes Solomonovna. Ivan had four more brothers - Vasily , Alexander, Nikolai and Vladimir, as well as two sisters - Elizabeth and Chionia. His father graduated from Vyisky technical school and for about 15 years he was the manager of factories of the Tagil district; he belonged to the highest class of freed-up employees and was brought up in the spirit of devotion to his factory owners [1] .

At the beginning of his career, he worked as a teacher at a public school. In 1881-1883 he was an inspector of the Teachers' seminary. P. Oldenburgsky in Pavlovsk [2] .

Belov placed his pedagogical articles in Sovremennik (1854), The All-Entrepreneurial Bulletin (1857), Russian Word (since 1859), and the Journal of the Ministry of Public Education; "Russian Disabled" and its additions (since 1863), "St. Petersburg Vedomosti" (since 1868), " Domestic Notes " (1872), etc. With the advent of the "Historical Bulletin" B. was a permanent employee in it to death, which followed on July 13, 1886 in Pavlovsk. “Travel notes and impressions of Western Siberia etc.” (Moscow, 1852, two volumes) were issued separately; “Travel Letters” (St. Petersburg, 1862); “Pedagogical letters” (St. Petersburg, 1864); "A Guide for Rural Teachers" (2nd ed., Moscow, 1872); "Geography for public schools" (St. Petersburg, 1870); Christmas Stories (two issues, St. Petersburg, 1870–71); “From Life” (St. Petersburg, 1872); "A Guide to Homeland Studies" (St. Petersburg, 1874); “Traveling in Germany and Switzerland from St. Petersburg to Mont Blanc” (St. Petersburg, 1875) and others. After Belov’s death, his articles were printed: “Our Soldier in Songs, Tales, and Sayings” (Historical Bulletin, 1886, pr. 8); “Tutor and teacher-teacher” (“Pedagogical Collection”, 1886, book 8) and “On Confidence in Students” (ibid., 1887, book 2).

He died on July 13, 1886 in Pavlovsk. He was buried at the Smolensk Orthodox Cemetery in St. Petersburg [3] .
