History
Znamenskaya received the original name from the Church of the Sign of the Mother of God , which existed from the middle of the 17th century. The stone church building was erected in 1784-1810 at the expense of the Kachalov nobles.
Due to the threat of flooding the street, construction was limited here. At the end of the 19th century G. Golovanov's tannery was located on the street (67, 69), 14, 14, and belonged to S. S. Valgusov, 6, 8, to A. D. Rodyukov, 19 - G. P. Pavlov.
New story
From 1920 to 1940, the House of the collective farmer was located in the estate of Rodyukov. On October 6, 1927, the street was renamed Voikova Street.
In 1935, the Temple of the Sign was closed and, partially destroyed, was used for household purposes. The return of the Russian Orthodox Church took place in 1992.
In 2006, at the initiative of the Tomsk diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church, the Tomsk City Council decided to return the historical name Znamenskaya to the street (based on the Znamenskaya Church located on it). However, this renaming provoked a protest from both members of the Tomsk branch of the Communist Party and the population, so the decision of the Duma was canceled, and the street to this day (2015) is named after Voikov.
