Content
Etymology
The name of the village is derived from the basis of " millstones " [3] .
Geographical position
Zhornovka is located near the Grodzianka - Lapichi highway, 28 km north of Osipovichi , 2.5 km from the Uborkok railway station and 161 km from Mogilev . The border with the forest runs in the north of the village. The regular layout is made up of three streets, traced perpendicular to the road. The building is mainly made up of wooden peasant houses, while in the north of the village there is a modern cottage type building. The community center of Zhornovka is located at the entrance to it from the village of Lapichi. In the north-east of the village, a part of the village’s buildings along with the old park are isolated [1] .
History
Written sources mention Zhornovka in the 16th century as the village of Svisloch volost , which was owned by the gentry . The village was part of the Russian Empire as a result of the second division of the Commonwealth . In 1827 it is referred to as a landowner village and farm in the Igumen district , which according to the 1897 census belonged to the Pogorel volost of the Igumen district of the Minsk province [1] .
From February to November 1918, Zhornovka was occupied by German troops, from August 1919 to July 1920 - Polish. In 1924, a large plot of landowner land departed for Zhornovka, and in 1927 a meteorological station was opened. The collective farm “Red Drummer” was founded in 1930 [1] .
During World War II, Zhornovka was occupied by Nazi troops from the end of June 1941 to June 29, 1944. At the front and as a result of partisan activity, 18 residents died. In 1967, Zhornovka was merged with the villages of Krasnaya Niva, Podbrodye, Zabrodye [1] .
According to 1998 data, there was a forestry and a wood processing workshop, a pilot leshoz, a forest experimental station, two kindergartens, a secondary school, a library, a museum, a canteen, a private school, a telephone exchange, a cultural center, a breeder's house -reception center for consumer services, shop. The village itself is the center of the SPK “Kolkhoz“ Red Drummer ”” [1] . In 1973, a stela was established near the Village Culture House in honor of the friendship of the peoples of the USSR; from three sides of the stele there are sculptures depicting women [4] .
The opening of a literacy school in the village dates back to 1884, in which 15 students studied in 1895. In 1907, this educational institution was turned into a public school . In 1923, 41 students attended a local school that had a library. On October 1, 1926, the forestry school was opened, which included three years of instruction and was intended for students with a seven-year education [1] .
