Career
The first major international start for the Argentinean was the 1978 World Cup in Hochfilzen, Austria. He finished 78th in the sprint and took 22nd place in the relay. In 1981, in Finnish Lahti, he became the 74th in the individual race, the 80th in the sprint, and the 19th in the relay.
In 1980, at the Lake Placid Winter Olympics, Argentina made her biathlon debut. Luis Rios , Raul Abella , Demetrio Velazquez and Jorge Salas played for her. Jorge was the oldest representative of this South American country at the games and the oldest participant in biathlon competitions, at the time of participation in the sprint he was 37 years and 139 days. He managed to finish in only one race - the sprint, where he took the last 49th place.
