History

In 1950, during the transformation of the Kola Scientific Base named after Kirov into the Kola branch of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, the Hydropower Department was added to its structure, the task of which was to study the hydropower resources of the Kola Peninsula .

In 1961, the Hydropower Department was transformed into the Energy Laboratory of the Mining and Metallurgical Institute of the KFAN USSR . The results of the laboratory research were used in the compilation of the hydropower cadastre and the construction of the Serebryansky and Teribersky cascades.

In the late 50s - early 60s, during the intensive development of industry and the energy system of the Kola Peninsula, he put forward new tasks for laying heating in industrial enterprises and cities, as well as for the construction and operation of thermal power plants and thermal power plants .

In 1973, it was transformed into the Department of Energy, which became an independent division of the USSR Academy of Sciences.

In 1990, the Department of Energy was transformed into the Institute of Physical and Technical Problems of the Energy of the North of the Kola Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

From 1993 to 2000, the director of the Institute was Elokhin Vladislav Romanovich.

Since 2000, the institute has been headed by Boris Vasilyevich Efimov, Corresponding Member of the AES RF , Doctor of Technical Sciences.

On the basis of the resolution of the Presidium of the KSC of the Russian Academy of Sciences of March 25, 2004 No. 2, the Kola Scientific Center Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences was established as a separate structural subdivision of the Kola Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences .
