The species is common in Mexico and the USA . It lives in various habitats. Due to the high proportion of protein in the diet, arid living conditions and a further high level of water loss, this bat usually lives near a water source. During the day, it hides mainly in crevices of rocks, although these bats are also found in buildings, under rocks and in dense thickets of sedge. Winters in mines, caves and crevices of rocks.
The wingspan is 19-21.5 cm, and the body length is 62-80 mm. On average, females are slightly larger than males. Color ranges from white and pale yellow to dark brown, being dark higher and lighter below. Their muzzle, ears, legs and membrane wings are usually very dark, almost black. The hair is soft and reaches 3-4 mm in length. The wings are short and wide.
It starts to fly hunting very early in the evening hours. Flies slowly. This is an insectivorous bat. Hibernates when the weather gets cold or food decreases. However, some individuals of this species sometimes appear in the winter months for hunting. Usually winters one by one.
Females give birth to their cubs in June. As a rule, two babies are born, but there can only be one. Mothers raise their cubs alone or in small maternal colonies of no more than a dozen bats. Offspring, as a rule, become capable of flying 2-3 weeks after birth.
