Biography

Yuri Morgunov was born on August 17, 1921 in the village of Yasenevo (now - within the precincts of Moscow ). After completing seven classes of school and factory apprenticeship, he worked as a turner in the factory. In parallel with the work involved in the flying club. In 1940, Morgunov was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . In 1942 he graduated from the Chkalov military aviation school of pilots. From January 1943 - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War [1] .

By December 1943, Junior Lieutenant Yuri Morgunov commanded the 48th Guards separate reconnaissance aviation regiment of the Red Army Air Forces Civil Command. By that time, he had made 98 combat sorties for aerial reconnaissance and aerial photography of enemy targets in his deep rear [1] .

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of February 4, 1944, for "exemplary execution of command tasks and courage and heroism shown" ] .

After World War II in 1954, Yuriy Vasilyevich graduated with honors from the VVA them. Yu.A. Gagarin. Then he served in the Soviet Army in the following positions: commander of a separate aviation reconnaissance regiment, deputy chief of staff of the air army for intelligence. From 1964 to 1977 - in the General Staff of the USSR Armed Forces. In May 1977, in the rank of Colonel Morgunov, he was dismissed [2] .

After being discharged from the Soviet Army from 1977 to 1992, Yu.V. Morgunov worked at the NEC AUVD (now GosNII "Aeronavigatsiya") [2] .

He lived and worked in Moscow. Died October 23, 2003 , buried at the Mitinsky cemetery in Moscow [1] .

He was also awarded two Orders of the Red Banner , two Orders of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree, Orders of the Red Star and "For Service to the Motherland in the Armed Forces of the USSR" of the 3rd degree, a number of medals [1] .
