Biography
Nikolai Molchanov was born on November 20, 1916 in Petrograd . After graduating from the factory apprenticeship school, he first worked as a mechanic at the factory, then as a master in a vocational school. In 1937 - 1940 he served in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army , participated in the battles of the Soviet-Finnish War . In 1941, Molchanov was re-drafted into the army. Since December of that year - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. In 1943 he graduated from the Higher Officer Armored School, in 1944 - advanced training courses for command personnel [1] .
By January 1945, Captain Nikolai Molchanov commanded a company of the 50th Guards Tank Brigade of the 9th Guards Tank Corps of the 2nd Guards Tank Army of the 1st Belorussian Front . He distinguished himself during the liberation of Poland . In battles near the city of Gostynin, the Molchanov company destroyed 2 assault guns, 3 anti-tank artillery guns, 4 mortars , 3 armored personnel carriers , about 100 enemy soldiers and officers [1] .
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of February 27, 1945, Captain Nikolai Molchanov was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the awarding of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal [1] .
After the war, Molchanov continued his service in the Soviet Army. In 1966, with the rank of colonel, he was transferred to the reserve. He lived in Leningrad . He died on December 16, 1976 [1] .
He was also awarded the Order of the Red Banner and World War II 2nd degree, three orders of the Red Star , a number of medals [1] .
