Biography
Andrea Fendt was born on January 31, 1960 in Bischofswiesen . In her youth she moved to Berchtesgaden , where she joined the local luge club and soon began to show pretty good results. She made her international debut at the age of fifteen; at the European Junior Championships in Austria, Imst finished eighth. In 1977, she became the champion of Germany in luge, won a gold medal at the European Youth Championship in Igls and attended the adult world championship in Igls - she was the sixth there.
At the first Luge World Cup held in the 1977/78 season, Fendt took second place in the women's individual event, in addition, she won the national championship again, won bronze at the European Youth Championship in Winterberg and received silver at the world championship in Imst . In 1979, she became the champion of West Germany for the third time in a row, she was also the sixth at the World Championships in Königssee and the twelfth at the European Championships in Oberhof. Her older brother Josef was also a famous sleigh rider, representing the country at two Olympic Games, and after the end of his sports career he headed the International Luge Federation .
