Biography
Vasyl Moiseenko was born in March 1908 in the village of Aleksandrovka (now the Zaporozhye region of Ukraine ). After graduating from elementary school, led the tractor team on the collective farm in the Kazakh SSR . In 1941, Moiseenko was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. From the same year - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War [1] .
By April 1945, the senior sergeant Vasily Moiseenko commanded the machine- gunners of the 7th Guards Cavalry Regiment of the 2nd Guards Cavalry Division of the 1st Guards Cavalry Corps of the 1st Ukrainian Front . Distinguished during battles in Germany . On April 21, 1945, in battles for the city of Ortrand, Moiseenko personally destroyed several enemy firing points. On April 24, he crossed the Elbe in the village of Zadel , 5 kilometers north-west of Meissen , and then destroyed 5 vehicles and 3 enemy motorcycles. April 29 , when his squadron was surrounded, Moiseenko took an active part in repelling German counterattacks, dying in that battle. He was buried in the Saxon village of Löthain [1] .
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of June 27, 1945, the guard sergeant Vasily Moiseenko was posthumously awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union . He was also awarded the Order of Lenin , World War 1 and 2 degrees, the Red Star , Glory 3rd degree.
A street in Cherkassk and a secondary school in the village of Kara-Bulak in the Sarkand district of Taldy-Kurgan Oblast in Kazakhstan are named after Moiseenko [1]
