Biography
Gilbert Mercier, along with his younger brother Rene, took part in the first Olympic biathlon race - individual, held at the Squaw Valley Olympic Games in 1960. The Frenchman showed the 7th time of passing a 20-kilometer distance, but at the same time only 3 targets out of 20 were hit at the firing lines, for which 34 penalty minutes were added to his time [1] . As a result, he took 27th place out of 30 participants.
During his career, he performed at four world championships. The best personal result was the 29th place in 1963 in the Austrian Seefeld . In 1966, together with his brothers Paul and Lois Romanov and Daniel Clodon, he took 7th place in the relay race, first held at the World Championships.
