Germain Katanga ( fr. Germain Katanga ; born April 28, 1978 , Mambasa , Eastern Province , Zaire ), also known as Simba, is a rebel leader from the Ituri Patriotic Resistance Front ( FRPI ). On October 17, 2007, he was brought before the International Criminal Court on six charges of war crimes and three charges of crimes against humanity. Among the accusations are murder, sexual slavery , involving children under 15 years old in active participation in hostilities.
On March 7, 2014, Katanga was convicted in five cases, in particular in February 2003, for participating in a massacre in the village of Bogoro in the Democratic Republic of the Congo . At the same time, the court acquitted Katanga on charges of rape and sexual slavery, as well as on charges of using children as soldiers.
