The University of Dar es Salaam is the largest university in Tanzania [1] [2] . It was founded in 1970 by dividing the University of East Africa into the University of Dar es Salaam, Makerere University and the University of Nairobi .

History
In 1961, a college affiliated with the University of London was opened in Dar es Salaam , which already in 1963 was included in the University of East Africa. When the decision was made in 1970 to divide the University of East Africa, on July 1 of the same year, the University of Dar es Salaam was formed from this college by the decision of the Tanzania Parliament No. 12 [3] .
