Graduated from MGIMO (1977). At diplomatic work since 1977. He speaks English and Dutch .
- 1994 - 1998 - Senior Advisor to the Permanent Mission, Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the European Communities in Brussels ( Belgium ).
- 1998 - 1999 - Deputy Director of the Fourth European Department of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- 1999 - 2002 - Deputy Director of the Department of Pan-European Cooperation of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- April - September 2002 - acting Director of the First Department of the CIS countries of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
