Nairobi is a railway station in the city of Nairobi , on the Ugandan Railway , going from the seaport of Mombasa to Kisumu , a port on Lake Victoria .

History
The station was built in a swampy area outside of settlements in 1899 during the construction of the railway line from Mombasa to Kampala . Quite quickly, the city of Nairobi grew around the station, which already in 1905 became the capital of the Colony and Protectorate of Kenya [1] .
In 1971, the Nairobi Railway Museum was opened at the station [2] .
The station is used both for organizing passenger traffic and for rail freight.
Passenger service
Currently, passenger service is only available between Nairobi and Mombasa. Trains run three times a week (from Mombasa on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday; from Nairobi on Monday, Wednesday and Friday). Intermediate stops are provided in the cities of Voi , Mtito Andei and Mackindu .
Trains in Kisumu have been temporarily unavailable since May 2012 [3] .
