Before World War II

Gubai Yandovletovich Baimukhametov [1] was born on June 10, 1925 [2] [3] in the provincial city of Orenburg [2] of the RSFSR of the USSR (now the administrative center of the Orenburg region of the Russian Federation ) in a working-class family. Tatar [2] [3] . In the 1930s he lived in the village of Sakmara near Orenburg. In 1937 he graduated from four classes of Sakmar secondary school [4] . After the death of his parents, he was brought up in an orphanage [5] [6] , where he completed incomplete secondary education [2] . Received professional education in driver courses. Before conscription, he worked as a combine harvester at a state farm [4] .

Order of Glory III degree

G. Ya. Baimukhametov was called up to the ranks of the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army on January 1, 1943, by the Chkalovsky District Military Commissariat, Chkalov Region [7] . He completed military training at a training camp. In battles with the Nazi invaders, the Red Army soldier Baimukhametov from August 1943 as a machine gunner of the 968th Infantry Regiment of the 230th Infantry Division of the 5th Shock Army of the Southern Front [2] [5] . He was baptized in the Donbass operation . He liberated Stalin , Pologi , participated in battles in the left-bank Dnieper . G. Ya. Baimukhametov returned to his regiment in November 1943 and was identified as a machine gunner in the 1st company of the 1st infantry battalion. In the winter of 1944 he took part in the liquidation of the Nikopol bridgehead of the Germans. After the successful completion of the Nikopol-Kryvyi Rih operation, the 230th Infantry Division, as part of the 57th Army of the 3rd Ukrainian Front, liberated Right-Bank Ukraine during the Bereznegovato-Snigirevskaya and Odessa operations . Red Army soldier G. Ya. Baimukhametov was especially distinguished in the battles for holding the bridgehead on the right bank of the Dniester .

 
Dniester River

On April 14, 1944, under the strong enemy artillery fire, units of the 986th Infantry Regiment crossed the Dniester two kilometers northwest of the settlement of Varnitsa, Moldavian SSR . In an effort to eliminate the Soviet bridgehead, the Germans threw large infantry forces into battle on the morning of April 15. Machine gunner Baimukhametov, showing composure and restraint, let the enemy chains close at close range, after which he opened heavy fire almost point blank. With fire from a machine gun, he exterminated more than 20 enemy soldiers. However, the Germans, intoxicated by alcohol, continued to persistently press on the position of the 1st infantry battalion. It came to hand-to-hand combat, during which Gubay Yandovletovich demonstrated good command of hand-to-hand combat and personally destroyed two enemy soldiers [7] . Only within one day the battalion repelled 8 counterattacks [9] of the superior enemy forces, which was greatly facilitated by the skillful combat work of machine gunner Baimukhametov. By an order of August 7, 1944, Gubai Yandovletovich was awarded the Order of Glory of the 3rd degree (No. 65908) [3] .

Order of Glory II degree

On August 20, 1944, from the bridgeheads held on the Dniester, units of the 230th Infantry Division went on the offensive as part of the Iasi-Chisinau operation . During the encirclement and liquidation of a German group east of Chisinau, the 986th Infantry Regiment under the command of a majorA. I. Smykova freed 9 settlements and captured 1070 enemy soldiers and officers [10] . After the operation was completed, the division in the 5th shock army was transferred to the 1st Belorussian Front . During the day, units of the 5th shock army broke through the German defenses on the Magnushevsky bridgehead south of Warsaw , and the 986th rifle regiment was thrown into the breakthrough on January 15. During the swift offensive of the shooter of the 1st infantry company, the Red Army soldier G. Ya. Baimukhametov repeatedly entered the battle, overturning and destroying the enemy’s barriers. On January 27, 1945, Gubai Yandovletovich crossed the German state border as part of his regiment, and on February 1, he was one of the first to cross the Oder at the settlement of Tsellin [11] [12] . In the period from February 2 to 5, 1945, as part of his unit, he participated in repulsing 18 enemy counterattacks, thereby contributing to the holding of the bridgehead [13] . On February 25, the Germans pulled in fresh forces and, after powerful artillery preparation, again made an attempt to push back Soviet troops beyond the Oder. During a fierce battle, the Red Army soldier Baimukhametov, acting boldly and decisively, did not retreat a single step, and fought a battle with a superior enemy, shot him point-blank from a machine gun, destroying 17 enemy soldiers and two officers [8] . For valor and courage shown in battle, by an order of April 13, 1945, G. Ya. Baimukhametov was awarded the Order of Glory of the 2nd degree (No. 25136) [3] .

Order of Glory I degree

The bridgehead on the Oder, which was firmly held by the units of the 230th Infantry Division, after combining with other bridgeheads, was called Küstrinsky and played an important role in the decisive attack on Berlin . The Berlin operation on April 14, 1945, the 986th rifle regiment began with reconnaissance in battle , which resulted in significant success. The regiment's units took the stronghold of the Germans Gizkhov-Merin-Graben and captured the Neu-Barnim station, thus breaking through the heavily fortified enemy defense line. The command of the 5th shock army immediately introduced several mobile formations into the gap, with which the regiment rushed to Berlin. Red Army soldier G. Ya. Baimukhametov took part in the assault on the outskirts of the German capital - , Kaulsdorf and Karlshorst , as a result of which the unit reached the Spree River in the area of on April 23, 1945. The Germans, having entrenched themselves on the left bank of the river, tried by all means to prevent the crossing of Soviet troops. Under heavy fire from the enemy, Gubai Yandoletovich, as part of the first assault group, crossed the water barrier and was the first to burst into German trenches. In the battle for the bridgehead, he crushed the enemy bunker with grenades and destroyed about ten enemy soldiers. The rest of the regiment [3] [14] quickly crossed to the bridgehead captured by the assault group.

No less bold and resolute G. Ya. Baimukhametov acted in street battles in Berlin. Knocking out the enemy who had sat in the attics and basements of the houses, eliminating the ambush of the Faustniks and storming the barricades, he personally exterminated 7 German soldiers and captured 7 more [2] [4] , knocked out two Tigers with captured faustpatrons [15] . Gubai Yandovletovich completed the battle path on May 2, 1945, not far from the central quarters of the city. For the difference in the Berlin operation and during the assault on Berlin by a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of May 15, 1946, Red Army soldier G. Ya. Baimukhametov was awarded the Order of Glory of the 1st degree (No. 1006) [3] .

After the war

After the end of World War II, G. Ya. Baimukhametov continued to serve in the army. He served near Odessa . Demobilized in March 1949 [4] with the rank of senior sergeant, he remained in the Odessa region . He lived in the village of Nikomavrovka, Shiryaevsky District [4] [15] . He worked as a driver on the Avangard collective farm [3] and as a driver of the Zatishansky motor transport office of the regional consumer union [15] . In 1965, he was awarded the military rank of foreman of the reserve [4] . Gubai Yandovletovich died on May 20, 1989. He was buried in the cemetery of the village of Sakhanskoye, Shiryaevsky district, Odessa region of Ukraine [4] .
