Story
John is a young guy living in the English outback. Nothing interesting happens in his life, and he longs to become famous and even tries to write his own music. However, his life changes when a group of touring rockers stops in the city, led by Frank, an eccentric musician who never takes off his head mask from papier-mâché. By a lucky chance, John manages to take the place of the keyboard player in the group. Together with new acquaintances, he goes to Ireland to record an album of psychedelic music. Along the way, he secretly removes the group and posts a video on the blog. As you know, any action, even the most harmless, can have consequences.

Creation
Mostly the film was inspired by Frank Sidebottom, the comedic persona of Chris SeaWay , but besides this, the plot was also inspired by musicians such as Daniel Johnston and Don van Vliet (better known under the pseudonym Captain Beefheart) [1] [2] . John Ronson , co-author of the script, was part of the Sidebottom group, and it was originally planned to adapt his work, but later a decision was made to build the film on fictional events [3] [4] .
Filming took place in the city of Wicklow , Ireland, and in the state of New Mexico , USA [5] [6] [7] . The music performed by the group in the film was recorded by the actors “live” during the filming [8] .
Premiere
The premiere of the film took place on January 17, 2014 at the 30th Sundance Film Festival [9] . During the screening of the picture on Sundance, all viewers were given the same masks as Frank's main character [10] . The premiere of the film in the UK and Ireland took place on May 2, 2014 [11] .
