The ceremony of his canonization is scheduled for October 5 of the current year. Another new saint is the nun Virginia Centurione Brachelli (1587-1651), the daughter of a Venetian doge. She was dedicated to worship in the Cathedral of St. Peter on May 18. For nearly a quarter of a century of his stay on the papal throne, John Paul II proclaimed 1,311 new blessed and 476 saints of the Catholic Church.
