Description
Small ants , length about 3 mm. The overall color of the body (head, chest and abdomen) is black or brownish. The appendages are lighter (from black-brown to orange-brown). Head and mesosome covered with coarse wrinkles; belly brilliant. The length of the worker's head (HL) is 0.90-1.20 mm (head width, HW - 0.77-1.15 mm). Scape of the antenna of the worker (SL) - 0.75–1.01 mm. The head index (CI = HW / HL × 100) is 85–96, the scape index (SI = SL / HW × 100.) is 85–91. Antennae 12-segmented (mace of 4 segments). Small eyes (up to 10 ommatidia in the widest line) are located in the anterolateral parts of the head. Stumps with 6 teeth (4 of them are apical). Clypeus in anterior part with 2-4 small blunt protrusions - teeth. The stalk between the breast and abdomen consists of two segments ( petiol + postpetiol). They are found in tropical lowland and mountain cloud forests at altitudes from 200 to 1800 m. Stenamma brujita is similar to Stenamma zelum species , but differs in large size and small eyes, rough sculpture of the head and chest, rounded head, longer protopodal spines. The species was first described in 2013 by American mirmecologist Michael Branshtteter ( Michael G. Branstetter ; Department of Entomology, University of California, Davis and National Museum of Natural History , Smithsonian Institution , Washington , DC, USA ) [1] [2] [3] .
