Rock Aid Armenia is the name of a charity music album and concert held on July 8, 1989 in London in support of the victims of the Spitak earthquake .

The concert was attended by many famous art rock , hard rock and heavy metal bands gathered at the historic Metropolis Studios in London to record a charity project whose proceeds went to the benefit of the victims of the 1988 earthquake in Leninakan ( Armenia ).
Initially, the organizers planned to hold a concert in memory of the Armenian earthquake in Moscow, then these plans collapsed, but an album in memory of that earthquake was nevertheless recorded. The project was created and coordinated by international philanthropists John Dee (Jon Dee) and Paul Lowell (Paul Lowell). The collection contains songs by the following groups: Emerson, Lake & Palmer , Gary Moore , Black Sabbath , Asia , Mike & the Mechanics , Rush , Deep Purple , Bon Jovi , Iron Maiden , Led Zeppelin , Foreigner , Pink Floyd , Queen , Yes , Whitesnake and others. “Rock Aid Armenia: The Earthquake Album” was published in 1990, the same year a video compilation of “Rock Aid Armenia: The Earth Hour Video” was released.
Smoke on the Water
The main point of the collection was a remake of the hit Deep Purple " Smoke on the Water " by a supergroup of musicians of famous rock bands (including musicians of Deep Purple ). A single from this version of the song hit the British Top 40 [1] . The footage of the rehearsal was released the same year on the video “ Rock Aid Armenia: Making of Smoke on the Water ”, along with an interview and a video clip for the single.
The famous musicians such as Brian Adams , Ricci Blackmore ( Deep Purple , Rainbow ), Bruce Dickinson ( Iron Maiden ), Kate Emerson , Ian Gillan ( Deep Purple ), David Gilmore ( Pink Floyd ), John Paul Jones ( Led ) participated in the remake. Zeppelin ), Tony Iommi ( Black Sabbath ), Brian May ( Queen ), Alex Lifeson ( Rush ), John Lord ( Deep Purple ), Adrian Smith ( Iron Maiden ), Paul Rogers ( Free , Bad Company ), Chris Squire ( Yes ) and Roger Taylor ( Queen ).
In 1991, this album, under license, was released by the Russian company SNC Records (Stas Namin Center)
