Biography
Johann Gottlieb Fleischer was born on October 15, 1797 in Mitawa, in the family of a brazier Christian Gottlieb Fleischer. He studied at the academic gymnasium in Mitau. In 1817 he entered the medical faculty of the University of Dorpat .
In 1821, Fleischer received a doctorate in medicine, after which he worked as a doctor in a city hospital. From 1824 to 1834 he worked in the Courland Order of Public Charity . Since 1832 Fleischer is a college assessor .
On April 22, 1838, Johann Gottlieb Fleischer passed away.
Fleischer was a member of the Imperial Moscow Society of Naturalists , he published several articles in his newsletters.
In 1839, the first edition of the monograph of the flora of Estonia, Livonia, and Courland was published, written by Fleischer and edited by another member of the Society, naturalist Emanuel Lindeman (1795-1845). On the flyleaf was a portrait of Fleischer. In 1853, A. A. Bunge released the second edition of this work.
