In May 1917, Gerard Den, at the age of fourteen, became a candidate for joining the Ajax football club [2] . At that time he lived in the eastern part of Amsterdam at 53 Linnustrat [3] . Two months later he was admitted to the club, but as a cadet [4] . In 1918, he began playing as a defender for the first team of Ajax cadets, where 13-year-old Pete Wunderink also performed [5] . He made his debut in the first team of Ajax on December 10, 1922 in the match of the championship of the Netherlands against the club RKH [7] , replacing Fons Pelser in the starting lineup. He played in defense along with Frans Cauton - at the Het Houten stadium, the Amsterdam team won 2-1 [8] [9] . In the debut season, Gerard played in three meetings of the Dutch championship - “Ajax” took fifth place in the western group following the season [10] . In August 1924, he played one match for the Amsterdam national team [11] [12] .
