Biography
Born in 1929 from the village of Megalo Chorio, near , in Greece.
After graduating from the Karapensian gymnasium, he went to Athens, where he continued to study. He worked at the publishing house "Papyrus" with his uncle Andrea Purnaras.
In February 1948, he left for Istanbul, where he entered the youth gymnasium at the Halka Theological School .
In December 1950, he was ordained deacon .
In 1955 he graduated from the Halka Seminary with honors and in October of that year was ordained to the rank of presbyter .
From 1955 to 1959 he studied at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Vienna [1] , at the same time he was rector of the St. George Church in Vienna.
Since 1959, he served in Frankfurt as rector of the Church of St. Andrew.
He founded the magazine Νέα Πορεία, translated the work "Paul" by Claude Tresmontan into Greek , published in the journals Εκκλησία, Απόστολος Ανδρέας, Λυχνία, Ανάπλασις, Νέα Παραί.
In 1968, at the invitation of the Archbishop of Athens, Jerome , he returned to Greece, where he was appointed rector of the Metropolitan Church in Athens.
On December 1, 1970, by the decision of the Holy Synod of the Alexandrian Patriarchate, at the proposal of the Patriarch Nicholas VI, he was elected the titular bishop of Elea. Episcopal consecration took place on January 17, 1971 at the Patriarchal Church in Cairo.
He was the chief editor of the journal of the Alexandrian Patriarchate Πάνταινος.
November 26, 1976 was elected Metropolitan of Central Africa with a chair in Kinshasa . The territory of his archpastoral responsibility covered Zaire , Burundi and Rwanda .
He died on March 1, 2003 in Athens. He was buried on March 5 in Athens. [2]
