Biography
Early years
Dirk Nowitzki was born in a sports family. Dirk's mother Helga Nowitzki was a professional basketball player, played in 1966 at the European Championships for the German national team . Sister Silke - also a former basketball player, played for the national team. After completing her career, she worked as a sports functionary in the NBA, and then became the manager of her brother. Dirk himself first engaged in handball and tennis . Then he switched to basketball . Later, he met with the coach (former player of the German national team) Holger Geschwinder , who had a great influence on the development of the athlete. At first, the coach conducted individual training sessions with Dirk three times a week, focusing on basketball elements, throwing and passing, rather than tactical and physical exercises. Career in Germany
At sixteen, Dirk Nowitzki made his debut in professional basketball. He began to play for the club "Würzburg" , who played in the second German basketball league. October 24, 2001 Nowitzki signed a contract with Dallas for a period of 6 years [7] .
September 27, 2006 extended the agreement with the club until the end of the 2010/11 season [8] [9] .
May 15, 2007 was named the most valuable player in the NBA 2007 . He became the first European basketball player to win the title. [10]
June 30, 2010 Nowitzki became a free agent. Dallas President Donnie Nelson almost immediately offered the player the maximum contract. On July 4, 2010, Nowitzki and Nelson agreed a four-year contract worth $ 80 million [11] [12] [13] .

Career in the German national team
He made his debut in the national team of Germany in 1997. At the 1999 European Championship began to show sniper qualities. With a growth of 213 cm, Nowitzki is a multipurpose forward capable of effectively playing in the positions of a centering, heavy or light forward.
