Born in Los Angeles in a family of actors Sally Triplett and Eddie Tamblyn. Soon he had a younger brother, Larry Tamblyn, who became an organist in the band "Standells". He began his acting career as a child with participation in theatrical productions, and in 1948 he first appeared on the movie screen in a cameo role in the film "The Boy with the Green Hair." In subsequent years, he received larger roles in the films “Samson and Delilah” (1949), “Crazy about Weapons” (1950), “Father of the Bride” (1950) and “Little Profit of the Father” (1951), which indicated in the credits like Rusty Tamblyn. The first success came to him in 1954 after the role of Gideon, a younger brother, in the famous musical by Stanley Donen “ Seven Brides for Seven Brothers ”. In 1956, the actor became the winner of the Golden Globe Award in the nomination "The Most Promising Newcomer." A year later, Tamblyn was nominated for an Academy Award for her role as Norman Page in the drama Payton Place.
