Career

Club

Gilberto Martinez began his football career at Sapriss , one of the most successful clubs in the Costa Rican championship . The defender played for the club from 1999 to 2002 and played 63 matches in the national championship.

In the summer of 2002, Martinez signed a contract with the Italian club Brescia . He played the first match in Serie A on September 15, 2002 against Piacenza [2] . Subsequently, during the season, the footballer entered the field in the Italian Championship match another 33 times. On December 5, 2004, while continuing to play in the top Italian division, Gilberto Martinez scored the first goal in his club career. In the 14th round of the championship, a Costa Rican scored a goal against Salvatore Sauvero from Regina [3] . As a result of the 2004/05 season , Brescia dropped out to Serie B and the defender continued his career in this division.

Gilberto Martinez spent the 2006/07 season at Roma , but did not play a single match for the Roman team.

Three years later, Brescia took third place in the second division and returned to Serie A. The defender spent the first half of the 2010/11 season , and from February 2011 until the championship ended he played for Sampdoria on loan. For the first time, Martinez played for the Genoese club on February 2, 2011 in the match against Cagliari [4] . At the end of the season, both teams, for which the Costa Rican football player played, ended up in Serie B, taking 18th and 19th places.

In the summer of 2012, Gilberto Martinez’s contract with Brescia ended and the defender remained without a club until in January 2013 he became a player in the club of the third division of Lecce . He made his debut in a new team on February 24, 2013 in a match against Virtus Entella [5] .
