Hamza Haz ( indon. Hamzah Haz ) (born February 15, 1940 , Ketapang ) is an Indonesian politician. Vice-President of Indonesia (2001-2004), Minister-Coordinator for the Public Welfare of Indonesia (1999).

Biography
Khamza Khaz was born on February 15, 1940 in the city of Ketapang. In his youth, he worked as a journalist in Pontianak , and later taught economics at the [1] .
Hamza Haza’s political career began in 1968 , when he was elected to the provincial parliament of West Kalimantan . He later moved to Jakarta ; In 1971 he became a member of parliament , joining the faction of the Nahdatul Ulama party. In 1973 , after Nahdatul Ulama joined the Unity and Development Party (PER), he became a member of this party [1] .
From 1998 to 1999, he was Minister for Investment in the Bukharuddin Cabinet , Yusuf Habibi . In the 1999 parliamentary elections, he was the leader of the PER, later headed her faction in parliament, where she was the third largest [1] . In October 1999, he became the coordinating minister (minister in charge of several ministries of the same industry) in the government of Abdurrahman Wahid , but left the post a month later [1] ; after the resignation sharply criticized Wahid [1] . In the government, Megawati Sukarnoputri served as vice president.
In the 2004 presidential election, he was one of the presidential candidates, and ran for him as a vice presidential candidate. According to the results of the election campaign, he took the last, fifth place, receiving 3% of the votes.
He holds a Ph.D. degree from the - a ; it is reported that he acquired this degree for $ 1,200 [2] [3] .
Sayings
Khamza Khaz has repeatedly expressed his support for radical Islamists [4] . His close relationship with the leader of the terrorist organization Jemaah Islamiah Abu Bakar Baashir is known ; during his tenure as vice president, Haz publicly invited Bashir to lunch, and also visited the . Right up to the arrest of Baashir in October 2002, Haz denied his connection with terrorism: “If you want to arrest Abu Bakar Baashir, you will have to deal with me first” ( eng. “If you want to arrest you with me first " ) - he declared [5] . However, according to Time magazine and a number of other authoritative publications, the relations between Haza and Baashir were determined not so much by personal sympathy as by Haz’s desire to enlist the support of Muslim voters in the 2004 elections [6] [4] [7] .
On September 3, 2003, Haz in one of his speeches called the US the king of terrorists ( English terrorist king ), accusing them of starting the war in Iraq [8] .
Family
According to the Office of the Vice-President [9] , Hamza Haz has two wives: Asmania ( indon. Asmaniah , born July 27, 1942) and Titin Kartini ( indon. Titin Kartini , born May 4, 1946). From official wives he has 12 children. According to unofficial sources [10] , Haza has a third wife, Soraya ( indone. Soraya ), and three children from her; however, Haz did not publicly acknowledge the existence of this marriage.
The son of Hamza Haza, Nur Agus Haz ( indon. Nur Agus Haz ) is a member of the Indonesian parliament from the PER [11] .
