Sports career
At the Summer Olympics in Melbourne (1956) in the 10,000 meter race he took seventh place with a score of 29: 49.2 minutes. In 1957, he excelled at the Australian Championship at a distance of six miles (the Anglo-Saxon equivalent of ten kilometers). In 1958 he successfully defended the title. In July of that year, he won the six-mile race at the British Empire and the Commonwealth Games in Cardiff; at a distance of three miles took seventh place. Two days later, with a result of 2: 22: 45.6 he won the marathon.
In 1959, he became the champion of Australia at two distances at once - three and six miles, in 1960 he won again the race not three miles.
