Story
Arriving home after playing football in the yard, the boy Palle goes to bed. When he wakes up, it’s already light, and in the room Palle sees a note: “Dad and I disappeared, but we will certainly appear. Mama". Palle is looking for parents around the house, believing that they were joking, but they really are not at home. Palle goes outside, but there is nobody there. He enters an ice cream parlor and, since he has not yet had breakfast, eats several servings, leaving a note for the seller about this. Palle wanders through the streets of an empty city, looking at shop windows. He climbs into an empty fire engine and pushes her ladder up, but cannot push it back. In the toy store, he first tries his marksmanship by shooting a small soldier who says “Damn it, I’m killed!” But doesn’t really get into it and thinks he was joking, then he sees the reflection in the mirror and takes it for another boy, but again realizes that he is completely alone, which makes him sad. To get rid of the feeling of loneliness, he draws with chalk on the bridge figures of children. Climbing to the roof of the house, he sees a circus tent in the distance and runs there, thinking that people have returned. However, the circus is also empty, and on the armchair Palle finds a forgotten teddy bear . He takes the teddy bear and goes to the station, where he inspects the train, but there is nobody there. Shaking the teddy bear in his hands, Palle sits down on the bench, begins to cry - and wakes up in his crib. Mom enters his room, the laughter and noise of children playing through the window.
Differences from the book
The plot of the cartoon is based on the book, but differs in many specific details: for example, in the book Palle does not eat ice cream, does not draw with chalk on the pavement and does not go into the circus. On the contrary, the cartoon does not show that Palle accelerates on a tram, takes money from a bank, enters a restaurant, and at the end flies by plane into space and collides with the moon.
