Biography

Born on August 6 (20), 1894 in the city of Volsk, now in the Saratov Region. In 1914 he graduated from a real school.

In the army since 1914, second lieutenant. In 1916 he graduated from the Gatchina Aviation School.

Member of the First World War : in 1916-1917 - senior non-commissioned officer of the 4th Army Air Squad. He was shell-shocked. He was awarded the Cross of St. George 4 and 3 degrees.

In May 1918, while in Siberia (according to other sources - in the Volga region), he was mobilized and forcibly appointed commander of the Czech air squad. In December 1919, as part of 10 military operations of his detachment, he flew to the "Reds". In 1919-1921 he participated in the civil war on the side of the "Reds". In March 1921 he participated in the suppression of the Kronstadt uprising .

From February 1923 - on flight test work at the Air Force Research Institute (until 1926 - NOA). August 14 - 20, 1924 on a R-1 plane made a flight Moscow - Sevastopol - Moscow. June 10 - July 13, 1925 on the R-1 aircraft participated in the group flight Moscow - Beijing as the flight commander. August 30 - September 2, 1925 on the R-1 aircraft participated in the flight Beijing - Tokyo . Due to bad weather conditions, he made an emergency landing before reaching Tokyo.

Since 193? - TsAGI test pilot, deputy head of the OELID (Operation, Flight Testing and Finishing Division) TsAGI.

He died on May 9, 1933 during testing of the R-5 aircraft with rotary racks on a corkscrew.

He lived in Moscow. He was buried in Columbarium No. 1 (in the church) of the Don cemetery (Moscow).

Awarded 2 orders of the Red Banner.
