History
The village has a rich history. The first written record dates back to 1263, although archaeological excavations point to the 10th century. The surrounding area was inhabited in prehistoric times. Here are traces of a person of the Bronze and Iron epoch - Hallstatt. Of great importance was the discovery of the prehistoric city, one of the oldest in Central Europe, located on the Mouse Hill, which was fortified and in which life was in full swing about 3,500 years ago.
It arose at the crossroads of ancient roads, about halfway between Poprad and Spisska Nova Ves . From Spisski Shtvrtka comes the genus Henkel , a family known from the turn of the 14th century. In 1417, Emperor Sigismund Luxembourg granted the noble coat of arms to Peter, Jacob and Nicholas Henkel. In 1607, the then head of the clan Lazarus Henkel received the title of Baron Henkel von Donnersmark - the German name for the village. Later Henkel from Donnersmark received the count's title, eventually becoming one of the richest surnames of Prussia. One of the representatives of this family is director Florian Henkel von Donnersmark , winner of the Oscar.
