Great East of the Netherlands

The great east of the Netherlands ( Netherlands. Orde van Vrijmetselaren onder het Grootoosten der Nederlanden ) (BBH) is a regular Masonic grand lodge in the Netherlands. BBH was founded on December 26, 1756, as a great lodge uniting its Masonic lodges on the lands of the Netherlands [1] [2] .

Recognition

The great east of the Netherlands belongs to the regular branch of Freemasonry , and has mutual recognition with the United Great Lodge of England and the 51 Great Lodge of the United States [3] . There are nine districts in the Netherlands under the jurisdiction of the BBH, it operates three lodges in Suriname , through the Provincial Grand Lodge of Suriname, three lodges in Curacao, one lodge in South Africa, one in Thailand and through the Provincial Grand Lodge of the Caribbean, two lodges in Aruba and one on Saint Martin. The Great East of the Netherlands includes 162 lodges and about 6,200 freemasons [1] .

The great east of the Netherlands owns the Frederic Center for Masonic Culture , which has an online catalog of the available rarities of its library.

Provincial lodges under the jurisdiction of the BBH

Under the jurisdiction of the Great East of the Netherlands there were previously provincial grand lodges: the Great Lodge of South Africa and the Great Lodge of Transvaal [4] . One of the lodges, which was under the jurisdiction of the BBH, was located in the Cape Colony [5] .

Freemasonry actively developed throughout the history of the Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia ). In 1922, the Dutch provincial grand lodge, which was under the jurisdiction of the Great East of the Netherlands, controlled twenty lodges in the colony: fourteen in Java, three in Sumatra, as well as in Makassar and Salatig [6] .

BBH administered the Provincial Great Lodge of Zimbabwe, which has 5 lodges: 3 in Harare, and one each in Maronder and Bulawayo. The Great Lodge of Zimbabwe was formed in 1963 from the first lodges of Zambesia and Bulawayo, which were created back in 1896.
