Leslie Nicol was born in Manchester . She graduated from the Guildhall School of Music and Theater . The television actress’s debut was a cameo in the Black Adder television series. In 1999, Nicol received the role of Annie in the comedy " East is East ." The actress received the greatest fame for the role of Mrs. Patmore in the television series " Downton Abbey " and the queen in the television series " Silver Armchair ".
