Guinness Brewery

Since the 17th century, breweries, including the Alderman Giles Mi brewery, established around 1670, have been located near the gates of St. James. Dublin city authorities granted Giles Mi the right to lease land and water at this location [2] . My son-in-law Mi inherited these rights, Sir Mark Rainsford who was an alderman , and in 1700-1701 - the mayor of Dublin. Rainsford used these rights and created a new brewery, which was entrenched with the name "brewery at the gates of St. James." Rainsford produced his own ale, known as “beer and Rainsford ale,” but his company stood out little from other breweries in the area. After the death of Mark Rainsford in 1709, the brewery passed to his son, who was also named Mark Rainsford, who ceded the rights to captain Paul Espinnes, who died in 1750, after which the brewery fell into decay.

For 9 years no one showed interest in the brewery, but in 1759 Arthur Guinness , who was interested in premises for expanding his own beer production, decided to rent it from his grandson Sir Mark Rainsford (also Mark Rainsford), and was signed on December 31, 1759. a lease agreement for a 4-acre site for 9 thousand years with a rent of £ 45 per year [3] . From that moment on, Guinness beer production was located at this place [4] , and so far the production has gone far beyond the boundaries of the area leased in 1759.
