Biography
Anton Mikhaylichenko was born in 1910 in the village of Skelki (now the Vasilievsky district of the Zaporizhzhya region of Ukraine ). After graduating from elementary school he worked in promartels. In 1941, Mikhailichenko was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. In October 1941 he was surrounded, before his release he lived in his native village under occupation. In November 1943, Mikhailichenko was re-drafted into the army. By February 1944, the Red Army guard Anton Mikhaylichenko was a machine gunner of the 5th Guards Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade of the 3rd Guards Army of the 4th Ukrainian Front . He distinguished himself during the liberation of the Dnepropetrovsk region of the Ukrainian SSR [1] .
On February 7, 1944, as part of his battalion, Mikhaylichenko crossed the Dnieper in the Nikopol region and took an active part in the battles for the capture and retention of the bridgehead on its western shore, personally destroying two enemy firing points. On February 8, he made 24 flights, transporting a large number of fighters and commanders to the captured bridgehead. During the battles for Nikopol, Mykhaylichenko was one of the first to break into the city, personally destroying 26 enemy soldiers and officers, he himself was wounded, but continued to fight [1] .
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of March 19, 1944 for the “courage, bravery and heroism shown in the fight against the German invaders” of the guard, Red Army soldier Anton Mikhaylichenko was awarded the high rank of Hero of the Soviet Union . He did not manage to receive the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal , since in the same March 1944 he went missing [1] .
In honor of Mikhailichenko, a monument was erected in his native village [1] .
