Andrea Orlando ( Italian: Andrea Orlando ; born February 8, 1969 , La Spezia , Liguria ) - Member of the Italian Parliament, Minister of Environment and Land and Sea Protection in the Letta Government (2013-2014), Minister of Justice in the Renzi government and the Gentiloni government (2014–2018).

Biography
Early years
Born on February 8, 1969 in La Spezia ( Liguria ), in 1989 he became secretary of the provincial organization of the Italian Communist Youth Federation ( FGCI ), in 1990 he was elected to the Spezia communal council from the Italian Communist Party , later re-elected to the council from the DPS and in 1993 he headed there is a party faction in it. In 1995, he became the secretary of the city party organization, in 1997, the mayor appointed him a member of the city council, where Orlando was first responsible for private business, then - urban planning, and worked on this until 2002.
Orlando has no higher education [1] .
Party career
In 2000, Orlando joined the leadership of the regional organization of the Left Democrats party and was responsible for relations with local party organizations there, and in 2001 became the secretary of a provincial organization. In 2003, Piero Fassino brought him to work in the National Board (Direzione nazionale) of the party. In April 2007, the “Left Democrats” party was reorganized into the Democratic Party , and Orlando was responsible for organizational issues, and on November 14, 2008, National Secretary Walter Veltroni appointed him the press secretary of the Party’s National Secretariat, and in November 2009, Pierre Luigi Bersani appointed Orlando chairman of the Forum Justice Forum (Forum Giustizia).
MP
In the parliamentary elections of April 9-10, 2006 he was elected to the Chamber of Deputies on the list of the Olive Tree coalition [2] , in 2008 he was re- elected and became a member of the Budget Commission, as well as the Anti-Mafia Parliamentary Commission [3] . In 2013, he won the preliminary elections in the Democratic Party and headed the party list in Liguria, and after the elections on February 24-25, 2013 he became a member of the Chamber of Deputies of the XVIIth convocation [4] .
Minister
On April 28, 2013, he became Minister of the Environment and Land and Sea Protection in the Letta government [5] .
On February 22, 2014, he took the oath as Minister of Justice in the Renzi government [6] .
On April 9, 2015, in one of the courtrooms of the Palace of Justice in Milan , the bankruptcy defendant Claudio Giardiello shot two people with a pistol and also a judge in his office. The fourth corpse was found on the stairs without visible signs of violence - obviously, the man died due to poor health. Orlando, even before his urgent departure to Milan, said that his department had never received information about security flaws in the judicial institutions of Milan (immediately after the tragedy, information appeared that one of the metal detectors at the entrance to the Palace of Justice was faulty) [7] .
On January 9, 2016, it became known that the Renzi government was interrupting the preparation of a bill initiated by Orlando to decriminalize illegal immigration and reclassify this act as an administrative offense . According to analysts, the decisive role in the adoption of such a decision by the government was the position of the Minister of the Interior Angelino Alfano [8] .
On December 12, 2016 he again received the portfolio of the Minister of Justice - in the Gentiloni government formed after the resignation of Matteo Renzi [9] .
On April 30, 2017, Orlando participated in the direct election of the leader of the Democratic Party, in which Renzi again won a victory, receiving 70% of the vote (1,283,389 votes). 19.5% of voters voted for Orlando [10] .
On July 5, 2017, a fighter for independence of Sardinia Salvatore “Doddor” Meloni, who declared himself a political prisoner, died as a result of a hunger strike in a prison hospital. He proclaimed on the uninhabited Italian island of Mal di Ventre "the Republic of Malo Entu" (named after the island in the Sardinian dialect), declared himself its president, adopted state symbols and appointed six ministers. On April 28, 2017, he was arrested on suspicion of causing environmental damage, showing to journalists at the entrance to the prison the book of Irish activist Bobby Sands [11] .
Beyond Government
On April 17, 2019, he was appointed First Deputy Secretary of the Democratic Party Nicola Zingaretti [12] .
