Biography

Born July 21, 1929 in a peasant family in the village of Sakovschina, Volozhinsky district, Minsk region, Belarusian SSR .

In 1948 he graduated from Lida Pedagogical College. He taught at the Volunteer seven-year school in the Grodno region. He graduated from the Faculty of Language and Literature Minsk Pedagogical Institute named after M. Gorky (1953). He worked in Svir district as a teacher of language and literature of Syrmezh secondary school, director of the Kemelish secondary school.

In 1959 he defended his thesis for the title of candidate of philological sciences "Dakastrychnitskaya creative work of Zmіtraka Byadulі".

After graduating from graduate school (1958), he was a researcher, in 1982-1997, he was director of the Yanka Kupala Institute of Literature of the Belarusian SSR Academy of Sciences. Corresponding Member, Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Byelorussian SSR. [1] .

Scientific activity

He studied the process of accelerated development of Belarusian literature, acted as a literary critic.

Bibliography

He has been in print since 1952 as a critic and literary critic. He is the author of more than 200 scientific publications, including 11 monographs, as well as the novel “Padvyshanae skies” (Minsk: Mastatsky Literature, 1978).

He is a co-author of the monograph “Shlyakh razvitstsya belarusiani savetsky prose” (with M. Mushinsky, A. Yaskevich, 1972). He is the author of the report at the VIII International Congress of Slavic Studies “Nekatorya asablіvastsі paўnalnaga voiced by Slavic literatures of the known development” (1973).

Awards and Prizes

  • Prize of the Union of Writers of the USSR (1976) for the book “Prague Spiritual”
  • State Prize of the Byelorussian SSR named after Yakub Kolas (1980) for participating in the creation of the study “The History of Belarusian Pre-October Literature” and “The History of Belarusian Soviet Literature”
  • Francis Skorina Medal (1997), other medals.

  • The name of Victor Antonovich Kovalenko is the secondary school of the village of Sakovschina .
